The brand’s 90s inspiration was not just a nostalgic nod to the past, rather an attempt to tap back into a decade of optimism and excitement amid the current global chaos. “Scent is the strongest trigger of memory," Otherland's Co-founder and CEO, Abigail Cook Stone, explained in a press statement. "One whiff can instantly transport you, surfacing emotions and memories from long ago. As we cope with the stress of and unrest with today’s modern, increasingly digital world, I was inspired to escape back to my childhood."
Each candle is packaged in a pastel-colored jar, stamped with a design that matches the aesthetic of its corresponding name. “Dreamlight,” encased in a lilac jug, emits a mixture of wild freesia, plumeria, and tangerine, an unapologetic odor ideal for those who enjoy a night on the town. “Blue Jean Baby”--enveloped in baby blue, naturally--transports wearers back inside their favorite pair of Calvin’s, featuring a delightful melding of washed denim, white musk, and mimosa flower. “Glosspop,” sheathed in a pale pink jar, is a sleepover squad essential, with a combination of strawberry gloss, hard candy, and frosted rose having you reaching for your Lip Smacker stash.
