Dermalogica’s New Serum Offers A Skincare Workout For Your Neck
The hottest winter workout is far from online cardio and outdoor running drills—instead, it exercises the neck. Dermalogica’s new product expedites getting this area in shape: Neck Fit Contour Serum, a lightweight, roll-on formula that immediately tightens skin and helps the neck become firm and “fit” over time.
The neck and décolleté are often neglected when it comes to skin care, which is an issue Dermalogica strives to spotlight. According to the brand, “neck skin is more delicate and prone to premature signs of aging than the skin located elsewhere on the body.” The neck is vulnerable to the sun and ultraviolet light, and “tech neck” also hinders its health. “Having our head tilted down [to look at our phones] dehydrates it and speeds up the aging process,” explains Laura West, Master International Educator at Dermalogica. “Your head is pretty heavy, and as you start to flex your chin down, you flex your neck. When you're in that position, it causes pain to your back neck muscles because you're weakening them. If you have repetitive postures such as tech neck, or you stand, or you sit a certain way, or you sit for long periods in the same position, your tissue is going to adapt to that position.” Over time, the jawline may become less defined, while the skin itself suffers a slew of disadvantages as well. “You may start to lose the elasticity along the jawline area and get what we call elastosis,” says West. “You may start to see some discoloration, hyperpigmentation and sagginess of the skin.”
The Neck Fit Contour Serum is specifically catered to issues surrounding the neck area, with ingredients that tone, tighten and visibly lift the skin’s appearance. “We’ve been researching since 1986 for innovative technology in the [beauty] industry, and this product is no different,” West asserts. “When you look at any Dermalogica product name, it literally tells you what it's doing. [The Neck Fit Contour Serum] is a product formulated specifically for the neck, which is so exciting because it's rare to find something just for that area. Plus, it's called ‘Neck Fit,’ meaning it's going to get your neck and décolletage fit with ingredients that penetrate the skin.” The product is formulated with Flex Lift Contour Technology, which causes an immediate lifting effect and decrease in wrinkle depth while protecting skin against environmental pollutants. “It’s a new technology that forms a weightless, invisible mesh. When the mesh locks in, it lifts and tightens the tissue,” West explains. The product is also formulated with resurrection plant-inspired polysaccharide to strengthen the moisture barrier, as well as Griffonia seed extract to provide antioxidant defense. Novel palmitoyl tripeptide-42 produces retinol-like results: recognized by the skin cells, this next-generation tri-peptide contains a specific sequence of amino acids that reduces the appearance of wrinkles.
However, one must not solely rely on the penetration of the ingredients—neck “workouts” are also key in applying the serum. The product features a roller applicator that can also be used as a massager to work out the tissue. “Mechanobiology focuses on how physical forces like tech neck cause changes in the cells and tissues,” says West. Massaging the area with Dermalogica’s new formula, however, can help improve premature skin aging concerns. The Neck Fit Contour Serum is recommended to be used twice a day to achieve what West deems a “non-surgical facelift.” Roll a small amount of product along the décolleté and throat area, and when you reach the digastric muscles under the jaw, hold the pose. “Part of our language is to hold the pose because we want to allow the product to dry,” West declares. “As it’s drying, rest your hands on your collarbone area and tilt your head up. You should be able to feel the Flex Contour Technology working.”
Forget push-ups: Dermalogica’s Neck Fit Contour Serum helps the neck get “fit” with hardly any effort. Your neck is likely in desperate need of some TLC, and this product allows you to do so within the comfort of your own home—no gym time needed.
