Allie Sherlock's Singing Success
Thirteen-year-old Allie Sherlock never anticipated her musical talent would be taken from street to small screen. After posting a video on Facebook of herself busking on Dublin’s Grafton Street singing Ed Sheeran’s “Supermarket Flowers,” her voice went viral. She was invited to appear on The Ellen Show, where she performed in front of a live audience and chatted about her internet stardom. Shortly after, the teen announced she was signing a record deal. Sherlock was invited to Los Angeles by singer/producer Ryan Tedder from the popular band “OneRepublic” after he saw one of her videos on Instagram, and they have been writing original songs together ever since. Although Sherlock’s numerous viral YouTube videos (she has over 1.3 million subscribers) have supported her to date, she is ready to take her career to the next level with a tour and a debut album to be released next month.
When did you first develop your passion for music?
I started singing and playing guitar when I was 8. I’m mostly self-taught.
How would you describe your sound?
I’ve been told I have a voice similar to Adele's!
What singers inspire you the most?
Ed Sheeran and Adele. They’re my favorite artists. I love their songs and their voices.
Any dream collaborations in mind?
I love Ariana Grande--it would be amazing to work with her. She has released so many great songs recently.
Why did you decide to start singing covers on the streets of Dublin?
I love performing in front of people, and I guess I believed in myself. I had often heard of other musicians who went out and did street performances before getting recognized, so I wanted to do the same!
How did you build notoriety on YouTube?
I have to give my dad all the credit for YouTube, as he was the one who started posting the videos there. People seem to enjoy my music, and I am getting lots of views. Currently, I have over 1.3 million subscribers!
What was it like being a guest on The Ellen Show?
It was so cool! Ellen was really nice, and she calmed me down a lot because I was so nervous before the show.
Have you been working more on your original music?
I write new songs every week. I have a new album being released next month with Ryan Tedder. We wrote a song together that will be on it!
What are your future plans?
I want to keep singing and developing guitar and piano skills. I'm taking each day as it comes, and I'm trying to enjoy every opportunity that comes my way. It’s really cool to be getting a chance to pursue my dream!
