Royal Fashion Face Off
Last week’s Royal Wedding left me feeling quite inspired. After seeing both Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s stunning outfits, a light bulb went off over my head: Carrie’s Chronicles needs to do a royal fashion face off! Check out the five battles between both Duchess Meghan and Duchess Kate that I put together below and feel free to leave a comment with your own opinion.
Face Off #1:
Although both ladies’ wedding dresses were exquisite, I have to let Kate take the win on this one. Her look, by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, complete with long lace sleeves and v-neckline, has earned a spot in the fashion history books. The Victorian-inspired ivory satin bodice, which was padded at the hips and narrowed at the waist, hugged Kate's figure in all the right ways. In contrast, Meghan’s gown by Givenchy designer Clare Waight Keller was a bit too simple, and the tailoring on her sleeves could have been more form-fitting.
Face Off #2:
Meghan's Stella McCartney halter gown reigns victorious when it comes to this battle. Her reception dress was simple yet elegant, as if it came straight off the runway. The Alexander McQueen frock that Kate chose to wear post-wedding, however, was notably conservative. The box-pleated ball skirt and sweetheart neckline looked a bit dated, and her cropped cardigan was excessively demure.
Face Off #3:
Although Kate's Jojo Maman Bebe coat that she wore to visit the set of popular show Downtown Abbey is classic and chic, the belted element of Meghan's takes it to the next level. Meghan's modern wrap coat from Line the Label--which she wore out for her first public appearance with Prince Harry--sold out on the brand's website within minutes of her photo breaking the internet! The newest Duchess is the clear winner of this battle.
Face Off #4:
Maybe it's only because she has ten years of experience, but Kate Middleton sure knows how to rock a suit. Her tweed Rebecca Taylor ensemble she sported during a visit to Ronald McDonald House looks like she walked straight out of the pages of a Chanel ad in Vogue. Meghan, unfortunately, missed the mark(le) in this tailored Alexander Mcqueen trouser suit she wore to the Endeavour Fund Awards ceremony in London. The capri length of her pants seemed a bit casual, and overall, her ensemble seemed more lawyer-like than fit for a royal.
Face Off #5:
To be honest, I love both of these looks. Kate's dress--which she wore to a garden party in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s 91st birthday in Berlin--looks like she's ready to make the ultimate style statement at a beachside party. Meghan's outfit that she wore to a Today Show appearance, on the other hand, is channeling West Side Story vibes in the best way possible. Although this was a close one, I have to give it to Meghan. Her Jill Stuart dress proved that she is an absolute power woman who is not afraid to steal the show. Kate's Gosia Baczynska maxi paired with beachy sandals seemed laid-back in comparison.
