Return to the 80s: Alice + Olivia x Keith Haring Launch Party
Art and fashion join forces in the new Alice + Olivia x Keith Haring Collection inspired by the iconic 80s artist. Haring--known for his “Crack is Wack” mural--was never afraid to experiment with his pop art and graffiti designs, and was heavily influenced by street culture. A + O pays homage to his style and aesthetic by adorning biker jackets, blouses, booties, and more with his bright figures and doodles. Additionally, the 29-piece capsule collection--created in collaboration with the Keith Haring Foundation--incorporates a handful of colorful Haring-inspired accessories, including a clutch, duffel bag, and cosmetic case. “I have always been a fan of Keith Haring’s work--the colors and graphics,” said Alice + Olivia Designer Stacey Bendet in the brand’s official press release. “He was also one of the first artists to advance social causes and I think at this time in our world, it’s especially important to support artists who have made a difference.”
The launch party for the collection took place at Highline Stages, located in NYC’s uber-chic Meatpacking District. Upon entering the space, I was practically slapped across the face with 80s nostalgia—in the best way possible. The venue was adorned with old-school TV screens, working game room machines (Pac Man, Donkey Kong, and Space Invaders), a giant Lite-Brite display, and a DIY coloring wall where attendees filled in Haring’s designs with bright hues. A DJ Booth with LEGO block speakers blasted music of the decade from Madonna, Duran Duran, and Phil Collins.
Additionally, in between nibbles of mini burgers, truffle grilled cheese sandwiches, and bite-size pizzas, guests couldn’t help but gaze at one of the most captivating features of the evening: the indoor skateboarding ramp painted with Haring’s graffiti designs. Models wearing the line rode up and down fearlessly, effortlessly, and—of course—in style. Alice + Olivia is always successful in daring to go bold—both the event and collection as a whole serve as no exception.
