Bachelor Alumni Bekah Purifoy Goes Behind the Music

Securing a spot on ABC spinoff The Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart was no easy melody—yet 25-year-old Bekah Purifoy struck all the right chords. The Arkansas native has been training her voice from a young age, eventually receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theater. Purifoy’s career has continually taken center stage with her love life left behind, hence why she seized the opportunity to find forever romance on Listen to Your Heart. Although eliminated during week three of the series (after a fling with fellow contestant Danny Padilla), the singer made a lasting impact with her strong vocal chops and passion for her unique genre. Get to know the new addition to Bachelor Nation as she recounts her musical, on-camera journey to find love.

Why did you join the cast of The Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart?

I was discovered online and was contacted about the show. I thought it was a really interesting take on The Bachelor and was excited to be a part of it!

What was the first night like for you? Who did you connect with initially?

The first night was such an out-of-body experience, but it was so much fun! We all played games and got to know each other. We jammed on the piano, and some people pulled out their guitars. Savannah [McKinley] and I connected right away and have been sisters ever since. We picked each other as bunkmates on the first night and spent the majority of each day together.

Do you think music can advance a romantic connection? How did singing with fellow contestants help you grow closer?

I think any kind of commonality between people will aid in growing a connection, but music does so on another level. Singing and creating music with someone is an intimate experience regardless, but if you add in possible romance, it can really help spark feelings. One morning, Savannah, Bri [Stauss] and I sang worship songs at the piano, and it was one of my favorite experiences in the house. It created a bond that wouldn’t have been there otherwise had we not sung together!

What drew you to Danny as a partner in the competition?

I’m a theater kid, and Danny loves to do impressions and improv games. It made sense that we would get close. He’s so outgoing and easy to connect to! We became friends on night one and had so much fun together the whole time.

How did you prepare for the live vocal performance?

Lots of water and potato chips (my secret for greasing up the vocal cords)!

Looking back now, is there anything you wish you would have done differently?

I don’t know if I would’ve done anything differently. I love the people I was with, and I feel like I had a genuine experience there. That’s all I could really ask for!

What’s up next in your music career?

Since I love theater, my music career looks very different from the rest of the cast. I don’t make my own music. Broadway is closed for the rest of the year due to COVID, so what’s next for now is singing show tunes in my car.
