Alice + Olivia Spring/Summer 2020 NYFW Presentation
Alice + Olivia’s Spring/Summer 2020 presentation at New York Fashion Week was straight out of a fantasy—a fashionable one at that. According to the brand’s website, the upcoming collection is a “brightly-hued world where colors converse in a sherberty palette and transport the imagination into the fashionably surreal.”
The color palette ranges from hot pink to bright orange to calm lavender, with select pieces in simple yet stunning nudes and whites. “[The line] is all about color—pastels mixed with brights, dramatic sleeves, big volume skirts and lots of beautiful, structured tailoring,” Stacey Bendet, creative director of Alice + Olivia, has said.
The collection demonstrates the expansive creativity of Bendet, who worked with streetwear designer EV Bravado for a custom spray-paint print on denim. Simple lines and cuts on the fabric appear classic and chic while bold hues provide a playful touch. Furthermore, Bendet and Bravo are collaborating this season to give young, up-and-coming designers a chance to have their work produced and manufactured by the brand, as well as showcased at their presentations and in-store events.
The line also features jumpsuits elevated with voluminous sleeves, skirts updated with bright feathers, and neon color-blocking throughout. Multiple boho-chic patterns are manifested in effortless maxi dresses as well: Bendet combined patterned fabric together, producing two dresses with tiered skirts, each tier a different floral pattern with a distinct color.
The brand maintains its signature prints and embellishments, as well as its strong feminist message. One skirt particularly stands out: printed with women donned in sunglasses and flowers, the garment epitomizes female strength. In addition, select dresses are entirely embroidered with a complex and feminine floral pattern.
Fun, flirty, feminine, and fierce? Bendet’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection checks all the boxes once again.
