A Sweet Re(Treat)
Mars Wrigley Confectionery has created the ultimate treat: a pop-up salon with a cohesive chocolate and candy theme. The space was overflowing with America’s fave sweet treats, including M&M’s, Snickers, Dove chocolates, Skittles, and more so guests could fill their take-home goody bags. There was even graphic artwork hanging on the walls that spelled out phrases with candy, such as “Treat Yo Self” and “So Fresh and Clean” written with packs of gum, candy wrappers and cases of Altoids.
This pop-up demonstrates that there are a number of ways to indulge without necessarily consuming the calories. Case in point: the salon aspect of the space. Attendees (300 of them within two days!) were invited to enjoy a high-quality spa treatment, either hair styling, a mani/pedi, or makeup. These services were provided from 10am to 8pm on February 13th and 14th, just in time for Valentine’s Day. The best part? The treatments were candy and chocolate-themed as well!
On the mani/pedi list, guests chose from an array of hues inspired by vibrant Skittles or Starbursts. The candy shell lacquers offered were “sweet cherry red,” “lemony yellow,” “groovy grape purple,” “punchy pink,” “lovely lime green,” and “sunny citrus orange.” No boring hues here! The pedicure even included a soothing soak for sore muscles and their signature scrub for dry feet. It’s a spa lover’s dream!
The blowout bar was perfect for hair touch-ups if you were in a rush. You could either get “The Straight and Sleek” service, “The Bounce and Shine,” or ‘The Touch Up and Go.” And the mint-infused treatments--inspired by Altoids and Extra gum--smelled amazing.
At the candy counter makeup bar, people viewed a list of services inspired by Mars’ chocolate delights. The first makeup trend they offered was “The Twix Left/Right Brow Bar,” guaranteed to give you selfie-worthy brows in seconds. If you wanted more of a full-face look, makeup artists did either “The Snickers Nougat Nude Look,” which makes your skin looks natural and flawless, or the “M&M’s ‘Red’ Lip and Dramatic Lashes inspired by ‘Green,’” perfect for a night out. Lastly, this sweet retreat provided “The Dove Chocolate Smoky Eye” service, which is what I selected. The makeup artist mixed chocolate brown hues on my eyes and added a nude lip in order to craft a look just as tasteful as a Dove candy.
Although the pop-up salon only lasted two days, with the tremendous success of those 48 hours, I’m sure that this sweet (re)treat will be back pretty soon. I’ll make sure to keep you posted...if you promise to share your candy with me when it opens again.
